At the Governor’s Small Business Summit in El Paso, Governor Greg Abbott took the stage to appreciate the impact of Hispanic Texans on the state's economy. The recently held summit was a gathering where Texas’ entrepreneurial spirit was rightly applauded, particularly spotlighting the Hispanic community's significant role. "Texas is the economic engine of America, and most of that was made possible by our Hispanic owned businesses,” Abbott said, as noted in a statement by the Office of the Texas Governor, pointing out that the state houses 20 percent of America's Hispanic business owners and that small businesses provide nearly half of all Texas jobs.
Joining the Governor, Texas Workforce Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III was there, together with other business leaders and entrepreneurs, asserting the critical part these businesses play in keeping Texas at the forefront of commerce. According to a statement by the Governor, "In El Paso, there are more than 15,000 small businesses and 56 percent of those are minority owned." Highlighted in his keynote address before an audience of more than 250 attendees, was the Best State for Business accolade that Texas owns and its top ranking for small business job growth.
Abbott's address wasn’t just about celebrating current success—it focused on mechanisms meant to foster future prosperity as well. A nod was given to the state's encouragement of industry through the Texas CHIPS Office and the Texas Space Commission, designed to further attract and support businesses, a notion set to potentially boost opportunities for small businesses across Texas.
The Governor’s Small Business Summit is more than a pat on the back—it seeks to be a platform for connecting business owners and budding entrepreneurs with the resources and information crucial for elevating their ventures.
