Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Jeb Hogan to the Nueces River Authority Board of Directors, a move announced earlier this week. Hogan, whose term will last until February 1, 2029, joins an agency tasked with a substantial portfolio, including water control and conservation efforts in the Nueces River Basin, as well as responsibilities in forestation, groundwater, and floodwater management. Parks and recreational facilities also fall under the board's purview.
Hogan steps into this role backed by an extensive background in cattle ranching, overseeing operations across multiple precincts of Texas. His involvement with organizations like the Texas Farm Bureau and the American Simmental Association underscores a deep connection to the state's agricultural sector. As an active participant in the 4-H programs of McMullen and Robertson County, Hogan bridges community engagement with industry expertise. According to a statement from the Office of the Texas Governor, Hogan holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Texas A&M University, adding an academic sheen to his practical knowledge.
The appointment is part of Abbott’s ongoing initiative to staff state boards with individuals who possess both on-the-ground experience and technical expertise in relevant fields. In the context of the Nueces River Authority, Hogan's history of work in cattle raising may offer a pragmatic perspective on the water-related challenges that the agricultural sector frequently faces, particularly in the complex environmental and regulatory landscape that is Texas.
