A Green Township driver is facing serious charges after allegedly driving under the influence and causing a catastrophic accident that critically injured his passenger in June. Frankie Andriola, 22, is accused of operating his vehicle at a speed of 124 mph - nearly double the posted limit - on Interstate 275. The details of the incident, including the excessive speed, have been revealed in court papers.
The alleged events took place early on June 9, with Andriola losing control of the vehicle while engaged in an argument with his 23-year-old passenger. He reportedly admitted to having consumed alcohol before getting behind the wheel. The high-speed crash resulted not only in profound injury to the passenger but also charges of aggravated vehicular assault against Andriola.
FOX19, citing court documents, reports that the crash occurred in Whitewater Township and that Andriola's vehicle slammed into a guardrail. During his court appearance this past Monday, his bond was set at $60,000.
While the legal proceedings are set to begin, the tragedy highlights the perils of not only speeding but also driving under the influence. News from Local12 emphasized the life-threatening injuries sustained by the female passenger, which serve as a stark reminder of the potential consequences that reckless driving holds for all involved.
