A Gretna, Louisiana resident, Felix Mackey, has been handed down a sentence by the United States District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo for violations involving narcotics distribution and firearm possession. On September 25, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances including methamphetamine, cocaine hydrochloride, and cocaine base, as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm, Mackey received 192 months of imprisonment alongside five years of supervised release, and a $200 mandatory special assessment fee. This information comes from an announcement by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana, which further details the charges as a breach of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 846, and Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2).

According to court documents referenced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, a confidential source reported purchasing methamphetamine from Mackey on three separate occasions back in May 2021. Following these allegations, law enforcements executed a search warrant on Mackey’s place of residence on June 3, 2021. On the premises, authorities discovered a substantial amount of illicit drugs, precisely 92.127 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, 99.31 grams of cocaine, and 10.13 grams of cocaine base. During the same operation, officers seized a loaded nine-millimeter Taurus Model PT111 pistol, which Mackey, a previously convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing under federal law.

The prosecution's efforts are part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between various levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve. This strategy, launched on May 26, 2021, focuses on fostering trust within communities, supporting organizations that help prevent violence, establishing strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.

Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office were responsible for the investigation leading to Mackey's sentencing. Assistant United States Attorney Rachal Cassagne of the Narcotics Unit took on the role of prosecutor.
