
Two days ago, a chilling discovery was made at Park Center High School when school staff found a handgun in a student's backpack. The incident was swiftly addressed as the Brooklyn Park Police Department's school resource officers, already on duty at the school, responded to the situation at approximately 1:53 PM.
According to a report on the school's tip411 alert system, the weapon was secured immediately, ensuring no immediate danger to students or staff. An investigation was promptly initiated by the resource officer present, leading to quickly identify a student as a person of interest. The student was subsequently arrested soon after, thankfully without further incident.
The community's concern regarding safety in schools is palpable, yet in this instance, the procedures in place seemed to effectively mitigate the threat. The Brooklyn Park Police reiterated that there is no known ongoing threat to the school. The school has not publicly disclosed the identity of the student or the circumstances under which the handgun was brought onto school grounds.
