A violent confrontation over a financial dispute in West Houston culminated in gunshots late Tuesday night, with two individuals sustaining injuries, one of them inadvertently caught in the crossfire. The incident took place near the Richmond Avenue apartment complex at approximately 9:30 p.m., where an altercation over owed money escalated dramatically to gunfire, as reported by CW39.
According to the Houston Police Department, one man arrived at the scene armed and allegedly threatened to kill if the debt was not settled. This threat was met with deadly force as one individual inside an apartment discharged a firearm multiple times, shooting the man at least seven times. The man, in his late 20s, was quickly taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. In their effort to neutralize the threat, one stray bullet unfortunately went to pierce the wall of a neighboring apartment, striking an unintended victim in the wrist. CW39 notes that two suspects have been taken into custody following the incident.
Further details from ABC13 highlight the bystander's predicament. The man attempted to drive himself to the hospital but was intercepted and aided by police officers. "He (the bystander) actually tried to drive himself to the hospital and was stopped by some police officers and got some help immediately," Lt. R. Willkens with HPD said. The officers provided immediate assistance and the bystander's injuries are expected to be non-life-threatening.
The authorities have yet to release details on charges, though the man who used the gun in self-defense has cooperated with the police investigation.
