Chaos ensued on the streets of Fort Lauderdale on Thursday afternoon when officers found themselves under gunfire during a traffic stop. As reported by NBC Miami, the scene unfolded around 2:15 p.m. as Fort Lauderdale Police attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle on Northwest 3rd Avenue. Adrenaline surged, but no officers were injured when multiple suspects exited the vehicle, engaging the officers with shots fired.

The officers did not return fire, and the suspects led the police on a brief chase that came to a halt in the 1600 block of Sunrise Boulevard, where the three were taken into custody. During the flurry of the pursuit, a collision occurred involving a police car and a civilian vehicle at Northwest 6th Street and Northwest 9th Avenue, sending two officers to Broward Health Medical Center as a precaution, officials said. "They were expected to be okay," reported by NBC Miami.

Consequently, a traffic alert was issued by Fort Lauderdale Police, stating, "Due to police activity, the westbound lanes of Sunrise Boulevard are shutdown near the 1600 block." The alert, posted on X, suggested Northwest 9th Avenue as an alternate route for drivers affected by the closure.

Further details emerged from 7News, revealing that bullet holes were found in a bystander's car. The owner, Indar Imrit, expressed his shock, saying, "I didn't know my car get hit," and upon realization of the danger he narrowly escaped, added, "If I was sitting there I'm sure I’d get shot. It’s bad. Yeah it’s bad." A red undercover police truck involved in the incident was also seen by 7News cameras having crashed into a white Mercedes. The Broward Sheriff’s Office is helping with the ongoing investigation to find out what caused the chaos that day.
