Next Monday, a Mental Health Town Hall will be conducted by District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins, as part of a determined effort to spotlight and bolster community resources for those struggling with mental health challenges. The event will include a screening of "Upfront Gwinnett: Suffering in Silence," a revealing docuseries launches an important discussion, followed by a panel of experts prepared to examine the complexities of the topic.
The Town Hall seeks to create a space for open dialogue, allowing the Gwinnett community to engage directly with mental health professionals and advocates. The event aims to unite attendees in a shared cause, providing valuable information and support. The discussion will be enriched by insights and personal stories, with expert panelists such as Gwinnett Probate Judge Chris Ballar and Gwinnett Police Behavioral Health Unit Sgt. David Smith addressing the issues directly.
The venue for this event, a bastion of local governance and justice, is the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center Auditorium, located at 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville, tasked with holding space for this pressing communal concern. Members of the audience will be encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback following the panel discussion, while also having the opportunity to connect with resource providers at the event.
Commissioner Jasper Watkins III, who will be moderating the panel, brings together a cross-section of community figures, including the likes of Gwinnett Sheriff Mental Health Task Force Director Dr. Dana Tatum and Mental Health Advocate Christian Giddens. It's an opportunity for those personally affected or who work close to those in need, will learn what help there is at hand.
