The Hawai‘i Department of Law Enforcement (DLE) carried out a targeted sweep on the Leeward Coast, which led to the arrests of six individuals on outstanding warrants. In an operation executed by the Special Operations Section of the Sheriffs Division, the intervention was described as a concerted effort to reinforce community safety and ensure legal accountability.
According to the Department of Law Enforcement, DLE Director Jordan Lowe stated, “These arrests are part of DLE’s ongoing effort to support residents on the Leeward Coast and across the state by holding people accountable for their actions.” The individuals apprehended were on the radar for various offenses ranging from drug promotion to assault and traffic violations, indicating a spectrum of law breaches that the department aims to urgently address.
The sweep has notably culminated in apprehending Steven A. Smith, who was wanted on a no-bail warrant for breaching his parole terms. Smith's record includes serious charges like Assault in the First Degree and Robbery in the Second Degree. Others taken into custody include Patrick Calarruda and Felicia Deguzman, both implicated in vehicle-related and drug charges and David Kapahu, who failed to appear in court on restraining order violation charges. The operation also netted Jake Graziano and Geneiva II on contempt warrants for court no-shows related to both minor and severe infractions.
The DLE plans to continue these operations to enhance public safety, the effects on the community and those arrested are more complicated and need further examination.
