Healdsburg residents experienced a moment of criminal activity yesterday morning when a retail theft was reported at a local CVS. According to the Healdsburg Police Department, at approximately 9:45 AM, two individuals absconded with beauty products valued at around $1,000.
The suspects were said to have fled southbound, and mere minutes after the theft was reported, police officers located the suspect vehicle at the Vineyard Shopping Center. Inside the car was a male suspect, and a female suspect was spotted entering a Safeway with what appeared to be the loot in a large cloth bag. Despite initially evading the officers, within the hour, the woman was apprehended some blocks away on Grove Street.
Upon a search of the vehicle, the authorities uncovered the stolen beauty products and additional apparel and goods believed to be illicitly obtained. Jaylin Arie Copes, a 22-year-old Antioch resident, and 25-year-old Antonio Lino Faaeteete from Oakland were arrested. The charges were substantial, including grand theft, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy, which were laid against both individuals.
Faaeteete bore the additional burden of prior entanglements with the law, with outstanding warrants from the Bay Area for past weapon and theft charges. To make matters more complicated, he supplied the officers with fraudulent identification during this incident, thus earning him an additional charge for giving false ID to a peace officer. According to the Healdsburg Police Department, both suspects have since been booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
