Boating enthusiasts and water wanderers at Hickory Point Recreation Complex can finally set sail for adventure as the site's east boat slips reopen after months of renovations. According to Lake County, starting today, six upgraded boat slips are now accessible, featuring amenities like ADA-accessible concrete floating docks and tire-traction pavement.

If you have a big boat, the east slips can fit boats up to 30 feet long under normal lake conditions. Meanwhile, the west slips are closing for renovations, but the east ramps will stay open, so you can still enjoy Lake Harris without disruptions.

Phase two might seem a hassle, but it's all part of the plan to transform the Hickory Point Recreation Complex into a premier aquatic destination. The Lake County Office of Parks & Trails has been steering this project, and patrons are asked to keep their eyes peeled for ramp closure signs and new traffic courses charting their way through the construction.

The renovations are expected to take about 145 days, depending on the weather. Call the Lake County Office of Parks & Trails at 352-253-4950 for updates on when the boat slips will be ready.
