Travelers in Hilliard should prepare for a detour as roadwork moves into its final stretch. According to a recent announcement by the City of Hilliard, the westbound lane of Scioto Darby Road will be closed at Cosgray Road beginning October 1 to finalize the construction of a new roundabout. The closure is part of the ongoing development of The Well, Hilliard’s future Recreation and Wellness Campus.

The road closure is expected to last approximately ten days, and during this period, the eastbound lane of Scioto Darby will remain open. A detour will be available for westbound traffic, redirecting vehicles through the new roundabout on Cosgray Road, south to Alton Darby Road, and then back to Scioto Darby Road. Despite this new obstruction, nearby Darby Town Center access will be maintained from both Cosgray and Scioto Darby Road entrances.

The existing detour will continue for drivers accustomed to traveling via Cosgray Road at Scioto Darby Road. Drivers can navigate from Hayden Run Road to Leppert Road and then reach Scioto Darby Road. Meanwhile, local authorities remind the public that the area's cut-through traffic is not permitted.

The upcoming roundabout at the heart of the construction aims to ease access to The Well, which is set to open in the summer of 2025. The project also includes pedestrian-friendly features, like a new crosswalk equipped with flashing beacons and raised crosswalks to slow driving speeds and increase safety. It will connect to over two miles of new trails within The Well's campus. Street lighting and enhanced connectivity with shared-use paths and fiber conduit are part of the plan, as are landscaping and stormwater management improvements.

Further construction will resume this fall beyond the roundabout on the Cosgray Road extension. This will result in a re-closure of the road, but the new roundabout will remain operative. For continuous updates on the construction and road closures, travelers can visit The City of Hilliard's official website.
