Over Labor Day weekend, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office ran a crackdown called "Operation Summer's End" to reduce impaired driving. They made 297 enforcement stops, monitoring both roads and waterways for people celebrating the end of summer.
While enjoying the traditional festivities, the joint-agency effort, partnered with the Tampa Police Department, USF Police, and the Florida Highway Patrol, took to the streets and waters. Eager to mitigate risks associated with DUI and BUI offenses, the mission promoted a safer environment so that families, in reveling under the blue vastness of clear skies, could without the overshadow of tragedy unfurl their leisure.
In a statement obtained by the official Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office press release, Sheriff Chad Chronister highlighted the impact of the operation. "Our deputies' commitment and efforts this weekend undoubtedly made a difference by keeping our community safe. Each arrest of an impaired driver or boater is a step toward saving lives,” he said. Chronister adamantly emphasized, “Operating any vehicle, whether on land or water, while under the influence endangers yourself and everyone nearby. We will not accept this dangerous behavior and will remain committed to preventing these reckless actions."
Sheriff Chronister emphasizes that driving under the influence can lead to serious accidents, and each arrest helps prevent potential tragedies. Please find additional details regarding "Operation Summer's End" by visiting the official press release of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
