A man was found shot to death in his minivan late Thursday night in east Charlotte, sparking a homicide investigation by local authorities. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed they were called to the 1000 block of Timber Lake Drive around 10:30 p.m., where they discovered the victim who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the rapid response, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by WCNC.
Investigative units, including CSI and the Charlotte Fire Department, assiduously combed the area for evidence and canvassed for potential witnesses. However, authorities have not yet made any arrests nor have they identified a suspect or established a motive for the shooting, which took place near the intersections of Lawyers and Albemarle roads. According to WBTV's review of local crime data, the corridor had not experienced a surge in violent crime in recent months prior to this incident.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin. CMPD Major Bret Balamucki made a public plea after the incident, saying, “Every time somebody resolves conflict with gun violence, we end up with results like this,” WBTV reports.
