Houston Deputy Fires Gun During Confrontation with Suspected Tire Thief at Apartment Complex

A disturbance early this morning at a Houston apartment complex sparked an investigation after an off-duty deputy from the Harris County Sheriff's Office discharged his firearm during a tussle with an alleged tire thief. A physical altercation ensued when the deputy, responding to an alert from his vehicle's alarm system around 4:45 a.m., confronted a man he suspected of stealing a tire and wheel, as reported by Click2Houston.

The confrontation escalated quickly after the deputy, who was wearing clothing identifying him as a member of law enforcement, attempted to detain the man near Westpark Drive the suspect managed to escape in a white Mercedes SUV, despite the firearm being discharged amid the struggle, no one was reportedly hit by the gunfire, but the true direction and intention behind the discharged round remain unclear at this time. The suspect, described as being in his 20s with shoulder-length dreadlocks, remains at large.
