Embracing the spirit of German tradition while surrounded by marine life, the Houston Interactive Aquarium announces its inaugural Oktoberfest celebration, slated to run from October 4-20, in Humble, Texas. This breezy fall event promises to combine the quintessential pleasures of Oktoberfest—think beer, bratwurst, and lederhosen—with the family-friendly vibe and aquatic attractions that the aquarium is known for, according to the event's events director, Holly Mefford.
Set against the backdrop of the Aquarium's varied interactive exhibits, the festival will feature live German music on the weekends, a beer garden stocked with traditional Oktoberfest brews, and German cuisine staples such as pretzels, bratwurst, and streusel, the Houston Chronicle detailed. While the adults savor their beers and the sounds of Germany, kids will have the opportunity to engage in a sausage-eating contest and play German-inspired games.
"To be able to bring people in the park and not only am I sharing with them the German history of why Germany holds Oktoberfest but in addition to that maybe an education experience to animals they're likely not to see ever beyond us," Mefford told the Houston Chronicle.
