Houston police are currently conducting an investigation into a fatal crash that occurred at approximately 4:35 p.m., yesterday on the South Freeway's service road. The specific location cited was the 7500 block of the State Highway 288 service road, where a white Jeep Rubicon, driven by a 66-year-old man, tragically went off course, hitting a wooden utility pole. The identity of the deceased is still pending, awaiting confirmation from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, according to City of Houston News.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant V. Vo and Officer T. La were on the scene and reported the details of the accident. The driver, while navigating northbound near the indicated address, unexpectedly veered right, the vehicle colliding with the pole. Following the crash, Houston Fire Department paramedics rushed to the site, promptly transporting both the driver and a 57-year-old female passenger to a nearby hospital. It was there that the male driver was pronounced dead.
The condition of the female passenger was described as stable, with injuries that were not life-threatening. Further details about her current status or the extent of her injuries have not been shared at this time.
