Following a recent stabbing incident in Houston, a suspect has been charged with murder. James Wilford Brooks, 49, now faces charges in connection with the death of 34-year-old Phillip Cason, which occurred outside a business on Montrose Boulevard. The charge was filed in the 262nd State District Court, and a booking photo has been released, according to a news release from the City of Houston.
Details from the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division indicate that on the afternoon of August 24, patrol officers discovered Cason unresponsive with multiple stab wounds. Despite immediate medical attention from paramedics and transport to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Cason succumbed to his injuries. A witness reported seeing an unknown black male suspect, later identified as Brooks, fleeing the scene. After releasing surveillance photos to the public, Brooks was apprehended on unrelated charges by Metro Police on August 29.
Investigators involved in the case included Detectives H. Martinez and S. Chettry, who have been gathering evidence and pursuing leads since the crime occurred. Their efforts culminated in the identification of Brooks as the suspect through additional investigation revealed in the City of Houston's statement. The Harris County District Attorney's Office, after being notified of the situation, has followed up by formally charging Brooks for his alleged role in Cason's death.
