A suspect has been swiftly arrested and faces charges following a deadly collision early Saturday morning in Houston. Alexandre Segal, a 49-year-old man, was taken into custody after the vehicle he was driving struck and killed a woman at 2300 Scott Street.
The fatal incident took place around 2:20 a.m. when Segal, who was driving a red Toyota Tundra, rear-ended a Toyota Corolla. According to the Houston Police Department, the collision caused Segal's truck to veer onto the sidewalk and tragically impact Ethel Evans, 72, who is believed to have been sleeping there. Despite promptly arriving at the scene, paramedics could not save Ms. Evans and declared her deceased. Authorities affirm that no other individuals were harmed in the crash. City of Houston News reports that Segal was observed to display signs of intoxication and was thus apprehended on the spot.
Sergeant Y. Ramirez and Officer D. Hoang of the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division led the initial investigation. Their findings prompted the Harris County District Attorney’s office to file intoxication manslaughter charges against Segal in the 248th State District Court. A booking photo accompanying the news release portrays Segal, now behind bars, pending the legal proceedings. He has been booked into the Harris County Jail, as per City of Houston News.
