A recent shooting that left one man dead and another wounded at 10401 West Bellfort Avenue last month has progressed with a significant development. Authorities have apprehended and charged 30-year-old Davion McMullen in connection to the incident, which unfolded in the early hours of August 26.
Identified as the deceased is 38-year-old Jessie Quiroz. He became, notwithstanding simply walking on the sidewalk, an unintended victim of a heated exchange that escalated lethally. The second victim, a 40-year-old male, survived the incident with injuries described as non-life-threatening, as detailed in a statement obtained by CityofHouston.News.
The Houston Police Department (HPD) Homicide Division Detectives C. Sharp and E. May reported that HPD patrol officers responded to the shooting call and discovered one of the victims lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Tragically pronounced dead at the scene, Quiroz was later revealed to have been innocently caught in the crossfire sparked by a confrontation between McMullen and the other injured party.
Investigators pieced together the tragic sequence of events, leading them to McMullen, who is now facing charges of murder and aggravated assault in the 174th State District Court. Charged, according to the same news release, which also included a booking photo, McMullen was detained on Wednesday by the HPD's South Gessner Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team. He is currently lodged within the confines of the Harris County Jail.
