Authorities in Houston are diving deep into a fatal accident that transpired on the 23100 block of the Eastex Freeway service road. According to an official report by the Houston Police Department (HPD), the incident occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, leading to the death of an unidentified male bicyclist.
The HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, led by Sergeant F. Briones and D. Jones, detailed the unfortunate events stating a cyclist was southbound, and upon attempting to change lanes, was struck abruptly from behind by a red Nissan Rogue. Attempts to quickly administer aid were made as Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene, yet the male was pronounced deceased shortly after.
The driver of the Nissan, a 74-year-old woman, did not leave the scene and cooperated with the authorities. After a routine investigation, police determined she was not under the influence at the time of the accident. She was questioned by police officials and subsequently released, while the collision investigation continues to unwrap further details, according to the information revealed in the Houston news release.
