In an early morning altercation in southwest Houston, a security guard fatally shot another guard outside a strip center on Harwin Drive near Fondren Road. The Houston Police Department arrived at the scene shortly after 6:30 a.m. today to discover one man dead from multiple gunshot wounds, as reported by ABC13. The suspect, who was also working as a security guard for the same company, has been taken into police custody.
According to officials, the tragic incident unfolded when the suspect came to the location and proceeded to fatally shoot the victim, who was actively on duty, before calling the police to report the shooting himself. Both men, said to be in their 60s, knew each other, an aspect of the case that will likely figure prominently in the ongoing investigation. A weapon was found at the scene, and the suspect was immediately detained upon police arrival.
Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir of the Houston Police Department shared some details with the media. "That’s something we’re going to be looking into, if they were relieving each other or there were some other personal issues that were going on," he told KHOU. While the motive for the shooting remains unclear, authorities have described the encounter as an isolated incident, emphasizing that there was no broader threat to the community.
The investigation is ongoing, as detectives continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses to understand the events leading up to the deadly confrontation. The names of the individuals involved have not been released as the investigation is active and next of kin notifications presumably are still under way. Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in piecing together the circumstances that led to this violence that left one man dead and another in custody.
