Houston Police Involved in Fatal Collision with Pedestrian on Antoine Drive

A tragic scene unfolded last night in Houston as police reported a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a patrol vehicle. The incident occurred at 5300 Antoine Drive around 9:55 p.m. yesterday, with the pedestrian later succumbing to her injuries at Ben Taub General Hospital, the identity of the 41-year-old woman awaits confirmation from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to the City of Houston News, the HPD North Patrol Division officers were in the midst of transporting an arrested suspect when their patrol vehicle collided with the woman who was not using a crosswalk; immediately after the incident, the officers attempted to render assistance to the severely injured woman and the Houston Fire Department paramedics subsequently transported her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division's Sergeant E. Fendia and Officer Z. Radcliffe stated that the officers who struck the pedestrian were not injured and neither were the three children accompanying the woman at the time of the accident, who were identified as an 18-year-old man and two juvenile females, as mentioned by the City of Houston News.

Early findings suggest that speed may not have been a contributing factor in the crash but it's believed the woman failed to yield the right of way to the vehicle, at this juncture, there is no indication of the officers acting outside the parameters of their duty, the case is being scrutinized not only by the Vehicular Crimes Division but also by the HPD's Internal Affairs Division to ensure transparency and accountability in the somber aftermath.
