Three suspects were detained following a shooting that involved a Houston police officer at 7100 Alderney Drive yesterday. Officer S. Durfee, from the Northwest Patrol Division, was shot in the leg but sustained non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by City of Houston News. The incident, which unfolded around 9:50 a.m., led to charges against all three accomplices.
While apprehending two intruders during a home invasion call, Officer Durfee was met with gunfire that resulted in a bullet wounding his leg. Managed to return fire despite his injury, Officer Durfee was subsequently hospitalized, treated, and released. The alleged gunman, Raymond Perez, 35, currently faces several serious charges including aggravated assault against a public servant. His accomplices, Michael Perez, 38, and Brian A. Garcia Chavez, 18, have been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
Routine in officer-involved shooting incidents, the case has prompted an investigation by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and Internal Affairs Division, along with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Investigators recovered at the scene, Special Investigations Unit Detectives D. Hammons and M. Childs worked quickly to apprehend the suspects. Garcia Chavez, the third suspect, was later captured by HPD SWAT team officers in the 5800 block of Hollister Road without incident, according to the City of Houston News.
The investigation is still ongoing. Awaiting trial, the booking photos of Perez, Perez, and Garcia Chavez have been made publicly available by the authorities.
