
Over a year has passed since the shooting death of 18-year-old Alberto Navez-Ortiz on Porto Rico Road in Houston, and authorities are still seeking the public's assistance. The Houston Police Department is intensifying efforts to locate a suspect, identified as a black male, aged 17 to 19, involved in the incident that took place around 4:30 p.m. on September 27, 2023.
According to the City of Houston news release, a surveillance photo of the suspect has been circulated in hopes that someone will recognize him. Navez-Ortiz was found unresponsive in his vehicle, a victim of multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported, that three to four individuals fled the scene in a gray sedan, contributing to an urgent plea for more information from anyone who may recognize the suspect or have knowledge about the crime.
HPD Homicide Division's Detectives R. Waterwall and C. Vaughn responded to the scene, as detailed in the initial investigation. Despite the elapsed time, the precise motivation behind the shooting and the identities of all the individuals involved remain elusive. Every piece of information, no matter how seemingly minor, could be pivotal in bringing the responsible parties to justice.
