Authorities have apprehended and brought charges against a juvenile following the fatal incident in July, which took the life of 36-year-old Itolia Jones outside a Lockwood Drive establishment. The tragic event, reported to have transpired at approximately 4:25 p.m. on July 22, has only recently seen advancements in its investigation, as reported City of Houston News.
The young suspect, a 15-year-old male whose identity remains undisclosed due to his juvenile status, now faces a murder charge. The detainment concluded last Tuesday with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies orchestrating the arrest and subsequent relocation of the juvenile to a detention center. As the investigation unfolded, detectives A. Herrera and M. Providence of the HPD Homicide Division were led to what became a decisive turn in the case, guiding them to the alleged shooter.
In the initial aftermath of the shooting, the Houston Police Department responded to calls of a shooting at 4712 Lockwood Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Jones with numerous gunshot wounds and unresponsive, lying adjacent to a bus stop. The Houston Fire Department paramedics, swiftly on scene, declared he was pronounced dead at the site of the shooting, according to the same news release.
According to the investigators, an undisclosed altercation between Jones and a then-unidentified suspect escalated violently when the suspect exhibited a firearm and opened fire on Jones multiple times. The details surrounding the cause and nature of the argument remain scant, as does information regarding the direction the suspect fled post-shooting. The victim's identity as Itolia Jones has been disclosed, as the law allows for adult victim identities to be public.
