A 17-year-old male was declared dead following a shooting incident that occurred outside a residence at 7702 Avenue I yesterday, as was reported by the Houston Police Department. The shooting, which took place around 6:20 p.m., has led to an ongoing investigation and will soon be presented to a Harris County grand jury for review.
The identity of the young man who lost his life has not yet been released and is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Conversely, the 46-year-old shooter, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the altercation, was found at the scene with several facial injuries. He has recounted to police officers his version of how events tragically unfolded – claiming to have quickly taken hold of a gun from one of four unknown assailants and subsequently fired at the deceased male out of sheer fear for his life, according to City of Houston News.
When HPD Homicide Division Sergeant N. Lazo and Detective A. Finlay arrived in response to a call indicating a shooting in progress, they discovered the teenager on the sidewalk, already suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the rapid arrival of paramedics, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooter, on the other hand, remained at the scene to interact with police officers and recount his perception of the circumstances that led to the shooting, as detailed by City of Houston News.
The details of this harrowing encounter were presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, which determined the case should indeed be put in front of a grand jury.
