Houston Teens Charged in Distinct Stabbing Incidents, Community Urges Stronger Parental Role in Preventing Youth ViolenceSource: Google Street View

A 15-year-old student has been charged with stabbing a classmate after a reported altercation at YES Prep Southeast Secondary in Houston. The incident, which occurred inside the school's bathroom on a Monday, left the 16-year-old victim with a superficial cut on his neck and a gash on his scalp. The victim's father expressed the concerns that haunt many parents, "There's too much killing going on in schools. Too (many) bad things happening in schools, and a lot of parents are scared to send their kids to school," according to ABC13.

In connection to the stabbing, the young suspect allegedly utilized a brass-knuckle knife in the assault. The father lamented the need for parents to be better role models by saying, "That is why we need to be better as parents, better role models, show our kids a proper way to handle a situation like this as a parent and be aware of what you have around your house and what you give your kids access to." This incident adds to an alarming list of violent occurrences at schools, with a National Center of Education Statistics report citing 857,000 violent incidents during the 2021-2022 school year in public schools, as mentioned by ABC13.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, authorities have charged another 15-year-old boy with the stabbing death of 62-year-old Dana Magnuson in Hockley, northwest Harris County, as reported by Fox26Houston. Tyler Pitney, Dana's son, mentioned that the accused was a neighbor who previously helped with lawn care and chores around her home. The tragedy unfolded as she was gardening, with her son noting, "There was still blood everywhere - all over here - the doors."

The Harris County Juvenile Detention Center is currently detaining the teenager accused of killing Magnuson, with her family calling for charges as an adult.
