A juvenile faces serious charges following an investigation into an alleged shooting threat at Lake Norman High School. Reports of a screenshot claiming a plan to commit violence at the school prompted the Iredell County Sheriff's Office to take action on Sept. 15. The investigation, which involved school resource officers and detectives, revealed that the document was falsely created by a juvenile implicating another student, as per a QC News report.
The fabricated threat was circulated among students within multiple schools in Iredell County. With the creator of the document now facing felony charges for making a false report concerning mass violence on educational property and cyberbullying, in a statement obtained by WCNC.
This incident represents a single event in a broader pattern of threats targeting schools across Iredell and neighboring counties. According to information gathered by Mooresville Tribune, this school year has seen 25 reports concerning mass violence, with 11 resulting in felony charges. The sheriff's department has been vigilant, responding to threats throughout the Charlotte area including Cleveland, Gaston, and Lincoln counties.
Following the arrest, school leaders addressed the community. They communicated the need for dialogue with students concerning the gravity of such threats. "We understand that several students heard about the threat, and we want to assure you that we are doing all we can to ensure the safety and security of staff and students," was part of the message sent to parents, according to a WCNC statement.
