
A violent altercation in Jacksonville Beach ended with a man being shot in the leg while attempting to defend his partner from her aggressive ex-boyfriend on Sunday, according to local authorities. The Jacksonville Beach Police Department reported that officers first received calls about a disturbance in the area of 3rd Avenue South, near 6th Street South. Following this, the conflict escalated as according to News4JAX, a man battered "subject(s)" near Shetter Avenue and eventually located his ex-girlfriend, initiating a separate assault.
When the woman's current partner intervened, he was shot by the suspect, confirmed the Jacksonville Beach Police. "The woman’s current partner came to her aid and was then shot in the leg by the suspect," stated the police in a release covered by News4JAX. Authorities stated that after the shooting, the suspect fled the scene with the woman but was later caught. The man who was shot sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
All parties involved were reported as homeless. According to First Coast News, investigations are ongoing, with no current threat to the general public."Police said there is no threat to the public, and all parties involved in the incident are being interviewed by investigators," reported First Coast News.
