Two individuals were found dead on Friday in a Gate Parkway apartment, an incident that has prompted an ongoing investigation by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO). The discovery was made while officers from JSO's Crime Gun Intelligence Unit were on the scene for a separate inquiry, as detailed in a Jacksonville.com report.
Before the tragic finding, police spoke via phone to the individuals who were intending to turn themselves in for reasons not disclosed. Shortly after, gunshots were to be heard inside the apartment, leading officers to discover the dire scene. Both deceased were known to each other, a fact which adds a layer of complexity to the investigation now described as "pending," according to First Coast News.
Juan Care, a local resident, conveyed to Action News Jax the tense moments he experienced, "I was trying to get into my house, but the police told me it was too dangerous." Similarly, fellow resident Guinlan Daily was taken aback by the shocking event, explaining, "This isn’t something that happens around here. There’s been some vandalism lately, like car break-ins, but nothing like this." Daily also described the moments before the police response, relaying to Action News Jax, "I heard a boom, and thought, ‘Whoa, that didn’t sound like a gunshot.’ It sounded more like a door being broken in. I wasn’t expecting anything like this." As police have stated that the two men knew each other and they're treating the case as isolated, they've assured that there's no imminent danger to the public.
Officials have yet to release further details surrounding the circumstances of the deaths or the identities of the individuals.
