A fatal shooting in Jacksonville's New Town neighborhood left one man dead yesterday night, as reported by local authorities. According to News4Jax, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) officers near Beaver Street heard gunfire around 8 p.m. They discovered the victim on the 700 block of Eaverson Street, presenting with what seemed to be gunshot wounds.
Heard by officers responding to the sound of gunfire, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched to the area, where they pronounced the man dead at the scene, as detailed by First Coast News. The incident is currently under investigation by the JSO Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit.
"It appears to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community," Sgt. Ray Reeves of the JSO Homicide Unit said during a follow-up investigation, as indicated by the initial report from News4Jax. Additionally, the JSO is working in coordination with the Medical Examiner's Office and the State Attorney's Office, according to First Coast News.
No suspect information has been released, found by police who were near the crime scene. Community members with any information regarding the shooting are urged to reach out to the authorities.
