The Department of Safety and Homeland Security's Jasper Driver Services Center, located at 4950 Main St., Building D, is scheduled to briefly close for a technological upgrade. According to a recent department release, this one-day closure will occur on Friday, September 20, to allow for the installation of new credentialing equipment and self-service kiosks. The center is set to resume normal operations on Monday, September 23.
The temporary shutdown is all about modernizing the driving experience. A boon for Tennessee motorists, these cutting-edge self-service kiosks are designed to streamline various Driver Services transactions — from renewing or replacing a duplicate Driver License or ID Card to updating vital emergency contact information.
As per the official announcement, the new kiosks will even have photo capability and are set to accept payments through contemporary methods like Apple Pay and Google Pay, along with the usual credit or debit card options.
It’s not just Jasper that's upgrading; other Driver Services locations in Nashville, Murfreesboro, Gallatin, and Springfield will also close during the third week of September for a similar equipment upgrade. Services are slated to be disrupted temporarily, but the upgrade signifies long-term efficiency gains for patrons of these public offices.
