In a recent incident, Splendora Police encountered a juvenile driver who reportedly led them on a brief but intense chase before crashing. The incident began when officers noticed a vehicle traveling at speeds of 70mph down a 55mph zone on FM 2090. An attempt to conduct a traffic stop took a dramatic turn when the driver decided to quickly flee, shutting off the vehicle's lights to shake off pursuit. The chase ultimately concluded with the vehicle crashing into the woods, according to Splendora Police Department's Facebook page.
The ensuing search for the juvenile driver unfolded with a sense of urgency as first responders were dispatched, worried that the driver might have been trapped inside the wreck. However, it turned out the suspect had managed to slip away. It was during this time that officers, conducting a search of the car, found and seized an unlawfully possessed firearm, as detailed by the department's Facebook post.
When Splendora’s Criminal Interdiction Unit later came upon a male hitchhiking along FM 2090, exhibiting minor injuries consistent with those expected from the crash, the male confessed to being the escaped driver. EMS was promptly called to the scene for medical evaluation. The incident report by the Splendora Police highlights the series of events that led to the driver, now facing severe consequences, including charges of felony evading of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The Splendora Police Department has yet to release further details on the case or the juvenile's identity due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
