Heads up, Kapa‘a residents and passersby: The Department of Public Works in collaboration with Maui Kupono Builders has announced a scheduled one-lane closure on Ulu Street that will take place from Sept. 9 to Sept. 13, daily between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. This measure is necessary to facilitate road resurfacing works, aiming to better the state of the street for future daily commutes.
During the hours of construction, motorists are advised by the Department to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Kukui Street, especially since Ulu Street will see limited traffic flow, with only one lane open to accommodate vehicles in alternating directions.
The realities of urban maintenance require that residents and travelers alike make the necessary adjustments when these periodic inconveniences emerge, as indicated in a statement obtained by local authorities on the County of Kaua‘i website, which reads, "Please make the appropriate arrangements to accommodate the necessary road closures, use alternate routes, and allow extra time to get to destinations."
No parking will be permitted in the work zones while construction is ongoing, to ensure the safety of both the workers and the commuters. Those navigating the area can expect to be directed by flaggers positioned strategically to assist with traffic management.
