In a disturbing display of violence in Kent, 26-year-old Troy Walton faces multiple charges connected to a sexual assault that took place near Kent Memorial Park in broad daylight. Courts have charged him with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree attempted rape, second-degree assault with sexual motivation, and indecent liberties, as described in detailed court documents covered by Fox 13 Seattle.
The incident occurred last weekend when Walton allegedly attacked a 29-year-old woman from behind as she walked alongside Central Ave. According to the woman's account in the court papers, Walton carried her into the bushes and proceeded with the assault. During the attack, the victim fought back, biting Walton's hand which allowed her an opportunity to escape. KOMO News reports she was then treated at Harborview Medical Center for her injuries.
Kent Police were prompt in their response, canvassing the area for evidence. Surveillance footage played a critical role in identifying Walton, who was arrested near the Kent Transit Center still dressed in the same clothes he wore during the assault. An interrogation by detectives led to a full confession by Walton, as stated by the Kent Police Department and shared in a report by Fox 13 Seattle.
Prosecutors are taking Walton's past criminal record into account, including a prior conviction for sexual assault just a month before the latest incident and his current probation status for a previous fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation. Given these factors and the severity of the attack, bail has been set at $750,000, as explained by iLoveKent. Walton's next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 3, progressing a case that has rattled a community on the heels of a brazen and violent crime.
