A Keystone Heights woman, 37, was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident while she was walking along State Road 100 on Saturday night, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident, which saw the driver striking the woman near SE Lakeview Drive and then fleeing the scene without stopping, took place around 10:45 p.m., as per First Coast News.
Local law enforcement is now actively engaged in a search for the hit-and-run driver responsible for the collision but the vehicle's description remains unknown, further complicating the investigation that, in addition to the lack of description is hindered by the absence of witnesses at the time of the tragic event, according to Action News Jax. Meanwhile the victim was rushed to UF Shands in Gainesville, where she is currently being treated for serious injuries sustained during the incident.
The Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed that after hitting the woman, the driver continued to travel westbound on State Road 100 without stopping to render aid or report the incident. As the search for the culprit continues, authorities appeal to the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the individual behind the wheel.
