A 16-year-old student, after being apprehended for bringing an unloaded handgun onto the premises of Lake Brantley High School, appeared in court to face the consequential measures of his actions. As reported by WESH, the unnamed minor is now up against charges that include possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a firearm by a person under 18, and disturbing the peace. This incident precipitated a lockdown at the high school as police diligently searched for potential additional threats.
The seriousness of the allegations shows that the school has become a place of fear and disruption. The teen has a history of legal troubles, including loitering, prowling, and resisting arrest. Now, according to WFTV, the potential consequences he faces include up to five years in prison, five years of probation, and a fine of $5,000.
During the court proceedings, it was noted that the gun had been previously reported stolen from Orange County. The Altamonte Springs police quickly responded to the tip from school individuals and took the teen into custody without finding any other weapons or suspects. In light of the teen's past charges, the judge has ordered his detention in juvenile custody pending an arraignment scheduled for September 30.
