The search is on for a classic 1958 Chevrolet Corvette, stolen in West Los Angeles earlier this month, and the Los Angeles Police Department is calling on the public to join the hunt for this stolen American icon. The vintage vehicle painted light blue and featuring a Rhode Island license plate number 1KJ358, was taken from an underground garage on the 12200 block of West Olympic Boulevard on September 4 at 8:40 p.m., according to NBC Los Angeles.
The suspect believed to be a white male ranging in age from 25 to 30 years old and standing approximately 6 feet tall, was recorded by security cameras as he exited the premises in the classic car, and he was last seen sporting a gray t-shirt, dark shorts, two-tone gray and white shoes, a black backpack, while he was holding a skateboard before the theft, which could suggest a calculated or opportunistic act, the latter of which is indicated by the fact that the vehicle was left unlocked simplifying the act of the crime. KTLA reports that detectives have shared images of the man in the hope that someone may recognize him and come forward with information.
This particular Corvette model, with its VIN recorded as 1KJ358, is valued at over $100,000, as per an appraisal by Hagerty Insurance. The public can provide tips to LAPD Auto Detectives by calling 310-444-1503, as detailed by LAPD News.
Anonymous sources desiring to aid in the Corvette's recovery may provide their tips to the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), even download the "P-3 Tips" mobile application, selecting the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers as their program of choice.
