The City of Lewisville is rolling up its sleeves for a foray into the vibrant world of Hispanic and Latinx culture with its latest event, 'Conexiones Culturales: Cultural Connections.' As reported by the City of Lewisville, this celebration is set against the backdrop of Hispanic Heritage Month and runs from September 20 through November 16 at Lewisville Grand Theater.
Riding the wave of cultural appreciation, seven Latinx artists from North Texas, including the likes of Odilia Iaccarino, Veronica Medeiros, and Catalina Currea, among others, get to showcase their artistic spirit. Jose Angel Hernandez, the curator of the event and one of the featured artists, aims to cast a spotlight on the colorful kaleidoscope that is Latinx art. The artwork exhibition is accessible from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Administration Hallway Gallery, and also during public happenings at the Lewisville Grand Theater.
However, it's not all just about static art displays. The venue promises an interactive romp with a film screening and Latin dance demonstration scheduled for September 29. Kicking off at 1 p.m. with an artist meet and greet, the program will then leap into the award-winning musical film 'In The Heights' (2021) at 2 p.m., directed by Jon M. Chu. The film, an adaptation of the stage musical by Quiara Alegría Hudes and Lin-Manuel Miranda, follows a close-knit Dominican community in New York City's Washington Heights.
Following the cinematic journey, audience members will step into the shoes of dancers, slinging into a session of popular Latin dance moves with Dance At Legacy's principal dancer Zyriab heating up the floor. As the rhythm takes over, attendees can also snag complimentary popcorn and snacks, and might just sway away with a lucky draw win - a pair of tickets to attend yet another Lewisville Grand Theater bonanza.
