Four juveniles, students within the Lewisville ISD, are now facing charges after the Lewisville Police Department (LPD) swiftly responded to a series of fake threats circulating online. The threats, targeting Huffines Middle School, were determined to be a hoax designed to disrupt the educational environment. In an announcement posted on Facebook, the Lewisville Police Department clarified that despite the threats' lack of credibility, they necessitated a serious response.
The department's investigation began last Thursday when LISD officials alerted the School Resource Officers about the potential threat. The LPD's probe quickly recognized the posts as "duplications or recycled posts" from others observed in the region. Despite their dubious origin, the LPD did not take the threats lightly, leading to the location and apprehension of the suspects involved. "We want to ensure the public knows this threat was a fake post, purposely designed to create a reaction and intended to have the suspects avoid attending school on Friday," as per the Lewisville Police Department.
The LPD's zero-tolerance stance mirrors a growing nationwide urgency to counteract threats against schools, real or fabricated. The suspects, whose identities remain confidential due to their juvenile status, were charged with Terroristic Threat and placed in the Juvenile Detention Center in Denton. The department emphasizes the significance of maintaining safe learning environments free from fear and disturbance.
