A tragic incident in Pembroke Pines has resulted in the death of 16-year-old Cameron Day, a junior at McArthur High School. He was struck by lightning on Wednesday afternoon in a neighborhood south of Pines Boulevard off SW 67 Avenue. Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue found him under a tree in cardiac arrest, with burn wounds consistent with a lightning strike, as reported by CBS News Miami.

Witnesses close to the scene described the weather as a sudden storm, and Zandra Laguna, a resident of the area, said she saw Day moments before the lightning struck. "I saw the rescue stop right in front of where that boy was, and then I see them picking him up from the floor, and he just looked like I had a feeling it was that the lightning struck him, because it was instantly like from one minute to the next," Laguna told CBS News Miami.

According to WSVN News, Day was reportedly biking home from band practice before the incident. Friends described him as a great person and energetic. McArthur High School is providing grief counselors for students dealing with the loss.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral costs. Those wishing to support can find the donation page online.
