The highly anticipated game between No. 10 Miami and Ball State was delayed by bad weather this weekend. As per a statement obtained by Beloit Daily News, the game kick-off was postponed by nearly 2 1/2 hours due to lightning in the vicinity of the stadium. What was originally scheduled as a 3:30 p.m. start yesterday was pushed to 5:55 p.m., marking the first-ever clash between the Hurricanes and the Cardinals a bit more dramatic, than intended.
Initial reports of lightning came just before the 3 p.m. mark, initiating the inaugural delay. Teams were signaled to begin warmups shortly after 4 p.m. but were swiftly interrupted by pouring rain. A subsequent bout of lightning around 4:30 p.m., detected within the critical 8-mile radius, tacked on another mandatory 30-minute delay—forcing fans, who had settled into their seats, to retreat back to the concourses. The all-clear eventually came through at 5:34 p.m., according to information from NBC Miami.
Miami wasn't alone in its weather woes; other games in Florida also experienced interruptions. Florida's own showdown against Texas A&M saw about a 45-minute delay due to similar lightning concerns earlier on the same afternoon. Even an NAIA game in Miami Gardens involving Florida Memorial and Clark Atlanta had to be put on pause in the second half as a result of the stormy conditions.
