Long Beach police have taken a 23-year-old man into custody, Tyler Isaac Cooper, on allegations of his involvement in a series of robberies and burglaries targeting local businesses, according to a report from CBS News Los Angeles. Arrested on Sept. 10, Cooper was apprehended following suspicions regarding his activity dating back to January, with law enforcement believing him to be connected to nine different robberies and a slew of commercial burglaries within the Long Beach area.
Detectives have been toiling to thoroughly piece together evidence and testimonies, which they believe pointed to Cooper as the potential perpetrator behind these crimes. The arrest was made as detectives conducted a follow-up investigation in the 5900 block of Atlantic Avenue, the area where many of the incidents occurred. It was reported by Long Beach official police statements that Cooper would typically jump the counter and simulate possession of a firearm to commit the robberies.
Upon his arrest, Cooper faced booking for multiple charges including eight counts of robbery, one count of kidnapping, one count of grand theft of property, and one count of petty theft. He is currently held at Long Beach City Jail with bail set at $510,000. "Crime is not tolerated in our city, and we will do all we can to hold individuals accountable for disrupting the safety of our community," Chief of Police Wally Hebeish was quoted by CBS News Los Angeles in a statement recognizing the efforts of the LBPD during the investigation.
Following the arrest, search warrants were executed, leading to the recovery of evidence linked to the robberies. Collaboration between detectives and crime analysts from several divisions helped to firmly establish that suspect Cooper was responsible for the reported crimes. The cases have been compiled and presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for potential filing of charges, as further detailed in Long Beach police communications. The police have encouraged anyone with information on the robberies to step forward and contact the Robbery Detail at 562.570.7464, with the option to remain anonymous through various available methods.
