A Los Angeles man has been handed a five-year prison sentence for his role in a heroin trafficking operation, the Justice Department reported. Al Vernon Brown, 52, from Los Angeles, California, was sentenced on September 18, to 60 months imprisonment and four years of supervised release, following a guilty plea to charges related to heroin distribution and conspiracy, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

According to court filings detailed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Brown shipped drugs to associates in New Orleans, including named co-conspirators Christopher Johnson and Kevin Johnson, agents intercepted a package on June 22, 2021, containing 485 grams of heroin that Brown had sent to Metairie, Louisiana and it was intended for Kevin Johnson, who was amongst the recipients of these illicit shipments. Brown must also pay a $200 fee.

The investigation that led to Brown's sentencing was a collaboration between the Federal Bureau of Investigation - New Orleans Gang Task Force, the New Orleans Police Department, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Gretna Major Crimes Task Force. Rachal Cassagne, an Assistant U.S. Attorney, prosecuted Brown for heroin distribution.
