The Los Angeles Police Department was dispatched to Aniston's residence following a call claiming concern for a friend's well-being, KTLA 5 reported.
According to TMZ, a male voice, who managed to remain anonymous, suggested in a call to the police that he had concerns about a friend, whom he believed to be, "not doing well". Despite the ominous tone, he did not name Aniston directly. Law enforcement arrived at the location provided, which just happened to be Aniston's home, shortly after midnight to find a perplexed security team and no immediate sign of distress.
As part of their procedure, officers met with Jennifer Aniston herself, who clarified that she was indeed fine, well, and had no intentions of self-harm, effectively quashing the caller's claims. Following this verification, authorities were able to deduce that this was yet another swatting call — a hoax intending to draw a large police presence to the home of a celebrity or public figure.
LAPD is now actively investigating the origin of the call and treating it as part of the troubling trend of swatting. "If called again for a welfare check, plan to speak with security first before rolling out," law enforcement told TMZ, seemingly a part of their revised approach to mitigate disruptions caused by such pranks. In current times, a growing list of celebrities, including Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna, have found themselves targeted by these daunting hoaxes, which not only cause undue distress but also waste vital police resources.
Swatting is recognized beyond just the A-list community. It's a nationwide issue that has led to life-altering consequences.
