Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson of North Carolina is continuing his gubernatorial campaign despite serious allegations and pressure to withdraw. CBS17 reported that Robinson's team dismissed the recent revelations as "salacious tabloid trash." These revelations include posts on a pornographic website and an email address connected to a platform for extramarital affairs.
In a statement obtained by ABC11, Robinson's opponent, Josh Stein, said, "North Carolinians already know Mark Robinson is completely unfit to be governor." North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton shared a similar view without directly referencing the allegations. Meanwhile, Robinson's campaign activities have noticeably slowed, including the cancellation of recent events and his absence at a rally with Ohio Senator JD Vance.
Following a report by The News & Observer, despite a report detailing several graphic and inappropriate online comments linked to him, Robinson reportedly remained determined. The report connected these comments to Robinson through various identifiers, intensifying the controversy surrounding his gubernatorial bid. He has consistently denied the claims’ authenticity.
Adding to the disarray within his own party, North Carolina's Republican State Treasurer Dale Folwell was quoted by The News & Observer, expressing feelings of betrayal among Robinson's contacts. "It seems like anyone who's ever come in contact with (Robinson) has been fleeced. And this is just the latest example," Folwell stated. With ballots soon to be mailed to military and overseas voters.
