An I-15 accident in the early hours of Sunday morning resulted in the death of a male pedestrian after a collision with a semi-truck north of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. FOX5 Vegas reports the incident occurred roughly around 1:14 a.m., prompting a swift response from the Nevada State Police.
Following the crash, with traffic snarled and investigation crews at work, authorities directed all northbound vehicles on I-15 onto Las Vegas Boulevard until exit Apex, although normal traffic flow was restored by Monday morning. The man struck by the semi-truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released as the investigation continues.
The Nevada State Police initially released few details but will provide a full report after they investigate the collision. In the meantime, commuters were advised to avoid the area due to temporary closures of the northbound lanes. By early Monday, state troopers confirmed that the road had been cleared and reopened to traffic.
As noted by 8 News Now, the collision took place near mile marker 54, close to Speedway Boulevard, just before the 1:15 a.m. mark. During the incident, diverting all northbound traffic to the alternative route, the police aimed to manage the flow as the morning light broke over the Nevada asphalt.
