Minneapolis witnessed yet another incident of gun violence at a family gathering that ended with one person shot and a 57-year-old man under arrest. According to a bulletin released by the Minneapolis Police Department, the shooting took place on the 3200 block of Blaisdell Avenue shortly before 5:40 p.m. this past Sunday.
Officers of the Fifth Precinct swiftly responded, encountering the wounded adult male victim, who later received care for what was determined to be non-life-threatening injuries at Hennepin Healthcare Hospital, as detailed by the Minneapolis Police Department. Later that evening, just before 7:30 p.m., they tracked down and arrested the alleged shooter, who had reportedly been in attendance with his girlfriend, at a residence on 2413 10th Ave S. The gunfire, according to the police, ensued following a verbal argument that escalated too quickly, having resulted in the suspect being booked on 2nd Degree Assault charges.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara conveyed his dismay over the incident, lamenting the destructive decisiveness of gun violence in conflicts that could otherwise be resolved. "This is just another frustrating example of people settling their disputes with guns," Chief O'Hara said, "Instead of de-escalating and walking away, this individual apparently resorted to gun violence and now several lives are negatively impacted for years to come. It is so unnecessary."
