
A tragic event unfolded in Long Beach where a man was struck and killed by a fire truck as it responded to an emergency call, according to officials. The incident took place outside Fire Station 8, situated at the intersection of 2nd Street and Claremont Avenue, around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, as reported by ABC7.
The Long Beach Fire Department was in the process of responding to an emergency when the fire engine was involved in what the department described as a crash, meanwhile, a yet-to-be-identified man was struck by the vehicle and despite efforts to provide aid, the individual was confirmed deceased at the scene. As per KTLA, video evidence showed the victim just outside the doors of the fire station at the moment of the accident.
Following the incident, Long Beach Fire Department's Capt. Jake Heflan expressed condolences, declaring, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the individual involved. In addition, our crews are also undergoing critical incident stress management to also deal with the challenges and the trauma associated with this tragic incident," a sentiment which underscores the emotional impact on both the victim's family and the fire crew involved in the accident, this statement was obtained by ABC7.
